South Mountain Village is located in Maricopa county, Phoenix, Arizona. This diverse community has a population of 153,169 and a land area of 39.8 square miles. With an array of cultures and ethnicities coming together in the community, it is no wonder that its development is manifested by the diverse properties, structures, and homes. It is also dubbed as the “Gateway to the World’s Largest Municipal Park”.

South Mountain Village’s Elementary School Districts are the following: Kyrene, Laveen, Murphy, Phoenix, Roosevelt, Tempe, and Wilson while the Secondary School Districts are Phoenix and Tempe. Over 52,341 people are in a white collar job while a good 17,406 work blue collar. In addition to that, 50,664 housing units were constructed, 15,364 were built between 2000 and 2009 and only 2,378 were built in 2010 or later.

Despite having several areas for agriculture, with citrus groves, and foothills, South Mountain Village is still seen as a developing area and has a lot of potential for improvement and development. Even the core area of Central Avenue is in the midst of opening more commercial and employment opportunities.

Since it is in close proximity to the South Mountain, the South Mountain Park Preserve, the largest in the country, is very accessible to people looking for a hiking, biking and horse trail. You can also use the gateway of the village, a transit center called the Ed Pastor/South Mountain Village Transit Center which can accommodate up to seven bus routes. South Mountain Village is also home to numerous edifices with different historic and architectural styles such as Spanish, Pueblo, Tudor, English Cottage, and Mission.

An example of this is the Mystery Castle. Constructed between 1930-1945, this bizarre structure was built out of native stones and other scavenged materials.
