Alhambra is a village in Phoenix, Arizona in the county of Maricopa. The name of this 19.2 square miles village was chosen by William John Murphy, who is most notably known as the founder of Glendale, Arizona and the developer of the Arizona Canal. Alhambra is a Spanish word that translates to “the red” in English. The village was primarily built to provide housing after World War II and it has grown since then.
Alhambra’s Elementary School Districts are Alhambra, Glendale, Madison, Osborn, Phoenix, and Washington while its Secondary School Districts are Glendale and Phoenix. The total population of this urban village is 129,556 where 42,838 are white collar employees and 15,434 are the blue collar ones. It appears in statistical data that over 48,876 housing units were built here; 1,806 were constructed between 2000 and 2009 and only 969 in 2010 or later.
Houses and buildings in Alhambra are characterized by small ranch-style homes of the postwar era. Places that you can visit and look forward to in Alhambra are the Windsor Square Neighborhood where you can find Uptown Plaza, Phoenix’s first strip shopping center and also the homes which were built primarily in the 1930’s to the 1950’s.
