1- SKIMMER MOUTH

One of the most common leaks found in pools in Arizona are inside of the skimmer mouth in between the waterline tile grout and plastic housing. Over time, the ground shifts & settles, causing the pool shell to slowly separate from the deck. This causes the waterline tile grout to form cracks or gaps allowing water to leak under the deck. Due to the dry & arid Arizona desert, the water loss from the skimmer mouth will be absorbed into the landscape before it ever appears as a damp wet spot. These leaks are very hard to find without a trained eye and require professional leak detection technicians to diagnose. Pinpoint leak detection specializes in finding all leaks, no matter how big or small they may be within your pool, and will send a detailed report with freeze-frame photos of what we found and affordable estimates for repairs.

2- OVERFILLING THE POOL

Whether the pool is being filled manually with a garden hose, an over-the-deck water leveler, or by the automatic water leveling system in your deck, another common pool leak we find is the pool being overfilled. Pools can be overfilled due to the fill valve being set too high or a faulty fill valve/over-the-deck automatic water leveler. When the pool is overfilled to the top of the waterline tile or skimmer housing & coping edge, which are not designed to be submerged under water, this will cause the pool to leak under the deck. Pinpoint recommends maintaining the water level to halfway up the waterline tiles or skimmer mouth to avoid potential leaks. 3- UNDERGROUND PLUMBING

Another common pool leak we find during leak detection is in the underground plumbing between the pool and the equipment. These particular leaks can be found in a variety of areas, including under the deck, in the landscaping, under the pool shell, or even at the equipment. These leaks are generally caused by Arizona’s expansive soil, which can shift & crack, causing pressure on your pipes and connections. Tree roots can also grow into pipes, causing cracked pipes, broken fittings, and failed glue joints in your underground plumbing. If you have an underground suction line leak, you will most likely notice that your pool pump is not fully primed & air bubbles will come through the wall returns inside of the pool. If you have an underground return line leak, you will notice that the pool loses water faster when the pump is running normal operations. No matter the leak, Pinpoint Leak Detection can not only locate it, but repair the leaking line in a reasonable timeframe.

4- AUTOMATIC WATER LEVELER BOX

Another common pool leak in Arizona is found inside of the AWL box and/or equalizer line. Is your autofill float valve constantly running inside of your AWL box even though your pool is at the ideal water level? If so, you may have a cracked AWL box due to the ground shifting & settling, which puts added stress to the box, leading to cracks. Along with that, you may also have a broken equalizer line between the AWL box and the pool wall, causing water to leak under the deck. Lastly, if the autofill float valve was overtightened during installation, it may have cracked the threaded fitting inside of the AWL box causing a leak to occur. If you notice that your autofill float valve runs constantly, it’s definitely time to call Pinpoint Leak Detection and schedule an appointment to have one of our experienced technicians locate your leak.

5- NATURAL & FAUX ROCK WATER FEATURES

Another common pool leak found in Arizona, which is often overlooked by homeowners, is from your waterfall/water feature. The reason these structures are commonly overlooked as a potential leak is because they generally only leak when running. Whether you have a natural rock or faux rock water feature, these are dynamic structures that expand & contract with temperature & require periodic maintenance. The continuous shifting soil in Arizona causes the water feature grout & structure to crack, allowing water to leak into the structure when running. Sometimes, you may even notice moisture in the landscape around the water feature structure as well, indicating a potential leak. In order to determine if your water feature is leaking, reach out to Pinpoint Leak Detection today to get your pool & water feature inspected..
